21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

As we approach the new year, I’m filled with anticipation for all that God has planned for us in 2025. Each year, we begin with 21 days of prayer and fasting to align our hearts with God and prepare ourselves spiritually for the year ahead. This year, our 21 days of prayer and fasting will take place from January 6 to January 26, and our theme is Spirit-Filled Prayer, life with the Spirit.

During these three weeks, we will explore what a life with the Holy Spirit looks like. Each day, there will be a specific focus for prayer and fasting that you can follow along with through our church app or on our social media pages. This journey is an opportunity to grow deeper in our faith, seek God's presence, and allow the Holy Spirit to lead us in every area of our lives.

Why Fasting Matters

In Acts 13:2-3, we see the early church in Antioch fasting and praying together as they sought the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Fasting as a church body helps us unite in purpose and align our hearts with God’s will. It is a time to set aside distractions and focus fully on Him, creating space for the Holy Spirit to move powerfully in our lives and our church.

Ways to Participate in the Fast

There are several ways to engage in this fast, and I encourage you to prayerfully consider what God may be calling you to do. Here are some options:

Juice/water fast only: Involves consuming only liquids like water, fruit or vegetable juices, and sometimes clear broths, while abstaining from all solid foods. It’s a focused time for prayer and reliance on God. (Consult a doctor before starting if you have health concerns.)
The Daniel Fast: This is based on the fast of Daniel in the Bible, where he refrained from rich foods, meats, and wine (Daniel 10:3). The Daniel Fast typically includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds, while eliminating meat, dairy, processed foods, and sweeteners.
Eliminating a specific food group from your diet: Consider removing meat from your diet as an act of sacrifice and reliance on God.
A Coffee or Caffeine Fast: If you consume coffee or other beverages regularly, fasting from these can serve as a reminder to rely on God’s strength.
A Digital Fast: Disconnect from social media, television, or other digital distractions to focus more on prayer and God’s Word.
If fasting from food is not possible for you due to health reasons or struggles with an eating disorder, I encourage you to consult your doctor first. You can still participate in the fast by choosing a non-food fast, such as a digital fast.

Join Us on Sunday, January 5

On Sunday, January 5, I will share more about this time of prayer and fasting on Sunday 1/5/2025. I encourage you to come and hear how this season can help us grow together as a church and prepare for all that God will do in and through us in 2025.

Let’s begin this new year with a united heart, seeking God and allowing the Holy Spirit to fill us. I can’t wait to see how God moves during these 21 days of Spirit-Filled Prayer.

With anticipation and joy,

Sean Tavakoli,
Lead Pastor
